Alma (played by Julia Roberts) is about to earn tenure at Yale, but she is shaken when graduate student Maggie (played by Ayo Edebiri) informs her that another professor—who happens to be Alma's close friend—has sexually assaulted her. Hank (played by Andrew Garfield) claims he's innocent but loses his job, and Maggie has to determine how best to support her friend and her student.
